Build a truly custom dog collar: Patterns, Engraved Buckles & Webbing Text

Why Most Dog Collars Are Forgettable

Walk into any pet store and you will find the same dozen collars in the same handful of colors. Red, blue, black, green, and a resigned beige. They clip on, they hold a tag, they are fine. But they do not say anything about your dog — the one with the enormous personality and the way they make every room better just by walking into it.

At Here You Go Pup, we believe your pup deserves a collar that is actually theirs. Not the one sitting on a peg next to fifty others, but one built specifically around your dog — from the pattern on the webbing to the text engraved in the buckle to the name printed on the strap itself. Here is how a fully custom dog collar works, and what makes it genuinely different from anything you will find off a shelf.

Layer One: Choose Your Pattern — Over 1,800 Options

Every custom collar starts with the pattern. We have over 1,800 to choose from: bold tropicals and delicate florals, classic plaids and novelty prints, fine-line botanicals and loud geometric blocks, holiday designs and everyday patterns that work year-round. There is a pattern for the golden retriever whose owner loves autumn buffalo check and a pattern for the dachshund whose owner has strong feelings about hot-dog prints. Both are correct, and both look exactly right on the right dog.

Because choosing from 1,800 options can feel overwhelming, we built a 3D configurator that shows you exactly how your chosen pattern will look on the finished collar before you order. Real colors, real scale, the real collar — rendered three-dimensionally on screen before anything is made. You can preview twenty patterns in twenty minutes or spend an hour finding the one. The result is that you order knowing exactly what is coming.

Layer Two: Free Custom Engraving on the Zinc Buckle

Every Here You Go Pup collar includes a free custom engraved buckle — solid zinc metal hardware with your chosen text permanently engraved into the surface. Not printed. Not laser-etched onto a coating that wears off. Cut into the metal, where it stays legible for the life of the collar.

You can engrave up to four lines. Most customers use line one for the dog's name and line two for their phone number — the two pieces of information any stranger needs to get a lost dog home quickly. Some add a second contact number on line three. Others use the last line for a short phrase: Friendly, Needs Medication, Rescue Dog, Return for Reward. Whatever genuinely helps someone who finds your dog act more quickly, put it there.

Why is this better than a hanging ID tag? Tags jingle — that constant quiet clink that some dogs find genuinely stressful. Tags snag on furniture, carpet loops, and outdoor growth. And tags fall off. The split ring bends, the tag spins free one afternoon, and the identification you were relying on is lying in a field somewhere. An engraved buckle cannot jingle, cannot snag, and cannot fall off. When someone finds your dog, your name and number are right there in the hardware — readable at a glance, permanent, and completely silent.

Layer Three: Custom Text on the Webbing Itself

The third layer is the one that surprises people most. The webbing strap — the long patterned band that sits against your dog's neck — can carry custom printed text along its length. Your dog's name. Your phone number. A short phrase. Printed directly into the material.

This is not a label applied on top of the strap. The ink is permeated into the webbing fibers, integrated into the material rather than sitting on the surface. It resists fading, holds up through regular washing and outdoor exposure, and stays legible years after a surface-printed alternative would have worn completely blank. Combined with the engraved buckle, you have two independent forms of identification built into the collar's structure — no hanging tags, no noise, no wondering whether today is the day one finally fell off.

What Three Layers Together Actually Looks Like

Most dog collars offer a color choice. This one offers three layers of personalization that combine into something genuinely one of a kind.

  • 1,800+ patterns with 3D preview before you commit to anything
  • Free engraved zinc buckle — up to four lines, cut into the metal, completely silent
  • Custom webbing text — ink permeated into the strap, fade-resistant, permanent

None of these are priced as add-ons or sold separately. They come together because that is what a genuinely custom collar should include as standard. The difference in the finished product is visible the moment you clip it on — and felt every time you do.

Built from Recycled Materials, Handmade in the USA

Here You Go Pup was founded in memory of Kedzie, a Jack Russell Terrier. That love is the origin of everything the brand makes — and it shows in the materials and the care that goes into each piece.

The webbing on every collar is made from recycled plastic — material reclaimed from plastic bottles and remade into something durable, comfortable, and built for daily outdoor use. It performs identically to conventional nylon in every way that matters: water-resistant, easy to clean, built for real dogs who live real lives. It just happens to come from material that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill.

Every collar is also handcrafted in the USA by a small team that cares about what they make. Not assembled from imported components. Made by hand, with attention, by people who are proud of the finished product. That matters for quality, and it matters for what it means to choose something made that way.

Frequently Asked Questions

How permanent is the engraving on a zinc buckle?

Permanent for all practical purposes. The text is cut into the metal rather than applied to a surface coating, so it cannot wear off with normal use. The buckle will eventually show surface wear after years of daily use, but the engraved lettering remains legible for the life of the collar. If you ever need a replacement buckle with the same engraving, you can reorder — and it is free every time.

Can I order a matching harness, leash, and bandana in the same pattern?

Yes — the same 1,800+ pattern library is available across our full range of collars, harnesses, leashes, bandanas, and martingale collars. You can build a completely coordinated set in any pattern. Many customers start with a collar and come back for the matching pieces once they see the finished product in person.

What collar width should I choose for my dog?

Width is mostly a size question. For small to medium dogs under 30 lbs, 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch is proportionate and comfortable. For medium to large breeds, 1 inch is standard. For large and giant breeds, 1.5 inches provides the most comfort and distributes leash pressure most evenly. Our size guide has specific recommendations by breed.

What should I put on the webbing text?

The most practical choice is your dog's name on the first part of the strap and your phone number running alongside it — the same information as the engraved buckle, now also visible on the strap itself. Some customers prefer just the phone number on the webbing so the collar functions as contact information visible to anyone, even before they reach the buckle hardware.
